Lemon Pound Cake using Noosa!

2 sticks unsalted butter - room temperature
3 cups of sugar
6 large eggs - room temperature 
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon lemon extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup Noosa Lemon Yogurt

1 lemon

1 cup confectioners sugar

Pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees

Either grease and flour or spray baking spray into a bundt pan.

Using a mixer, cream sugar and butter in a bowl until smooth
Add eggs, one at a time, combine completely before adding the next one
Add vanilla and lemon extract

In a separate bowl shift together flour, salt and baking soda

Stir lemon yogurt in the container it comes in to mix.  

Add 1/3 of the flour mixture into the same bowl as sugar, butter and eggs.  Then 1/3 of the yogurt.  Do this until all ingredients are combined.

Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes and then check with cake tester.  Bake for an additional 15 minutes if needed.

Remove cake from pan within 5 minutes after removing from the oven.  Let cool completely

For the icing, place confectioners sugar in a bowl and then add the juice of one lemon.  Mix.  Add more lemon juice if needed.  Pour icing over cake.  Let stand until icing become firm.  Serve and enjoy!

Best Smoothie: My On the Go Breakfast

1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 banana
1/4 cup Plain Noosa Yoghurt
1 teaspoon agave (optional)

Place everything into a blender and mix.  Noosa is one of the best yoghurt's I've tasted.  Plain is new and I have not been able to find it in stores in my area, but I think it should arrive pretty soon.  Some of my other favorite flavors are:
Honey...the best
Tart Cherry...love!
Lemon...better than icecream

1.  I use frozen strawberries they double for the ice.  (You can also use frozen bananas)
2.  Only add agave if you want to, it's completely optional

If I'm running late and still drinking my coffee, I just add a little washi tape to cover the hole in my cup and to also hold the straw, then I just drop it in my lunch box with a freeze pack and it's still perfect by 10AM

Friday Letter - July 25th

dear self:  another rough week.  stay focused on your goals and you will be fine!  you've been thinking of signing up for a 10K in September, just do it, hills or no hills…it will be fun!  just remember being peaceful gives you power!  also remember to be thankful for the things you have, there are so many families going through so much more than you.

dear honey:  thank you for being there and making my days better

dear kayla:  so proud of you…volunteering at a kid's camp this week.  now to start up your baby sitting business!

dear anthony:  thank you for helping with driving this week!  it was amazing!  and you are super awesome!

dear new running shoes:  love you!  can't wait to you get out on the road.

Yep - I've been Licked!

my husband was so sweet to drive me to south austin to find this place.  once I saw the menu I knew I had to visit.  

lick - honest ice-creams.  

they say honest is the best policy even when it comes to ice-cream.  they only use honest ingredients - pure. local. amazing!  you can read more about the company here.

can you say yummmm.  I got one of the seasonal flavors, lavender lemon ICE CREAM.  yes, it was ice-cream.  it was amazing

oh, I total forgot to talk about the homemade waffle cones...amazing!  light.  crunchy.  perfect

18th year anniversary lunch

our first time at Franklin's BarBQ was simply amazing.
yes, franklin's as seen on the travel channel, in texas monthly, you know the place that has a line around the corner and NO ONE can skip the line - not even celebrities, but the other day president obama did skip the line…read about that here!  First time ever, anyone was allowed to skip the line.
I'm excited the president was just as excited to visit just as much as we were. 

this was our day:
6:15AM the alarm goes off…yes I repeat 6:15AM
my first thought - are we really up this early for BBQ?  I really hope it's THAT good

we get dressed and I ask my hubby to stop at einstein's bagels for breakfast…we make a quick stop and we arrive to Franklin's.  we get there about 7:30AM and there were already 50 people ahead of us…we pull out our lawn chairs, get out our breakfast and phones and sit.  we had friends that show up, and then more (most of our friends were a little late and the people behind us didn't like it when we asked if they could get in line with us…but they let them…yikes!)  we told our friends, next time, they would need to arrive on TIME…no more saving spots in line.

here is the line, it's growing!  we are right on the other side of the black truck.

the staff at franklin's comes out to find out about how much BBQ we plan to order and she also tells us although they open at 11:00, our wait would be another hour and a half after the doors open.   they let us use the bathroom inside the restaurant and they come and out and sell beer, soda and bottled water while we waited…pretty cool, but we brought our own cooler.

we finally make it to the door - and then inside…wow!  it was pretty small.  in the end…we stood in line for about 4.5 hours for our anniversary lunch…AND WAS THE BBQ  WORTH THE WAIT?

homemade chalkboard paint...

I'm so excited to team up with other amazing bloggers to share kids summer craft projects with you.  today we are sharing how to make your own homemade chalkboard paint, kids will love this. 

this is so simple.  I've seen so instructions all over the web and on pinterest.  so, I decided to take a stab at it. so here we go…

these are the things you will need:

non-sanded grout, you can find this at any hardware store
                                                              measuring cup - 1/2 cup
measuring spoon - 1 tablespoon
disposable cup / plastic spoon
painting surface (I purchased my speech bubbles at a craft supply store)
acrylic paint in any color

I would be sure to cover the table your are using with old newspapers just to protect your surface

I poured 1/2 cup of paint into a cup add 1 tablespoon of non-sanded grout stir {{I told you it would be easy}}, it will be thick, but that's ok

I painted maybe 3-4 coats, letting them dry just a little in between each coat. 
please let them dry for 24-48 hours before moving on the the next step...

next, just rub a peace of chalk over the entire writing surface, then wipe clean...

your chalkboards are now ready to use…I hope you enjoy making your own chalk board paint
